How to be a Woman is a non-fiction memoir of Caitlin Moran's early life. Moran's goal in writing this was to make feminism seem more approachable to every woman, so that they can all share their stories. She states that feminists are not hairy armed man haters but are true advocates for equality. The book deals with topics such as adolescence, having children, abortion, as well as other things. In terms of adolescence she describes being taught that true words for body parts are vulgar and should be replaced with nicknames, until adolescence when a more mature name is needed. Her stance on having children is that it grants a completely different outlook on life. On abortion Moran states that "having an abortion 12 weeks into pregnancy, is a morally better choice than bringing an unwanted child into the world." This book has had positive critical response and won a few awards.
